Jack Doyle has had the honor of working with many of the celebrated talents of musical theatre, film, and television, including Ginger Rogers, Mickey Rooney, Tommy Tune, Sandy Duncan, Shirley Jones, Larry Kert, Cy Coleman, Comden & Green, George Hearn, Leslie Uggams, Priscilla Lopez, Helen Gallagher, Harve Presnell, Charles Strouse, Peter Gennaro, Kaye Ballard, Dorothy Louden, Bob Fitch, John Raitt, Keith Carradine, Eartha Kitt, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally, Andrea Martin, Kristin Chenoweth, Kelly O'Hara, Sutton Foster, Bobby Canavale, Judy Kaye, Marni Nixon, Garrison Keillor, Tom Wopat, Marcia Lewis, Marian Seldes, Jerry Zaks, Kathleen Marshall, and Susan Stroman.

He created the role of Ewart Dunlop, singing lead in the barbershop quartet in the much-acclaimed Broadway revival of The Music Man. Additional Broadway credits include the original companies of Young Frankenstein and The Will Rogers Follies.

Traveling the country in many national tours, he understudied Tommy Tune in the title role of Doctor Dolittle, played Lumiere in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, sang in the Rhythm King Trio as Mingo in Crazy for You, and played the Ziegfeld tenor in Funny Girl.

Additional New York credits include City Center Encores! productions of Bye Bye Birdie, Face the Music, Music in the Air, Girl Crazy, Fanny, Bells Are Ringing, and Pipe Dream, Off-Broadway productions of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Destry Rides Again, Tomfoolery, and New Faces of 1952, a Radio City Music Hall spectacular, and many Lyrics & Lyricists concerts at the 92nd Street Y.

At the start of his career, Jack played many of the “song and dance man” roles: Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street, Billy Buck Chandler in My One And Only, Dick in Dames At Sea, and Constantine in Hollywood/Ukraine. Moving into character work, regionally Jack has played Henry Ford twice in Ragtime, Scuttle and Grimsby in separate productions of The Little Mermaid, Bert Barry in 42nd Street, Rooster in Annie, Enoch Snow in Carousel, Claude Upson in Mame, Rudolph twice in Hello, Dolly!, Amos Bellomy in The Fantasticks, Monsieur Baurel in An American In Paris and Ewart Dunlop in many productions of The Music Man - a role he has played close to 800 times.

Recordings include Pipe Dream, Girl Crazy, Strike Up the Band, The Music Man, Young Frankenstein, Face the Music, and his first solo CD, This Heart of Mine.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Jack returns once again to the historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA as Monsieur Baurel in the stage version of the 1951 MGM Academy Award winning film. With a book by Craig Lucas, music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, the production is being brought back from last year’s abbreviated run. The returning cast also includes Josh Drake, Leigh-Ann Esty, Bruce Landry, Manna Nichols, Barrett Riggins, and Jennifer Smith. Directed and choreographed by Emmy Award winner Al Blackstone, and with music direction by Matthew Smedal, An American In Paris will be presented from July 26 - August 12, 2023.

THE OTHER TWO Jack makes a guest appearance as George Washington in Season 3, Episode 5 - Cary And Brooke Go To An AIDS Play - of the hit MAX series. The series stars Molly Shannon, Drew Tarver and Helene Yorke. Guest stars on this episode include Kiernan Shipka and Lucas Gage and the third season is currently streaming on MAX.

The cast also includes Josh Drake, Leigh-Ann Esty, Bruce Landry, Manna Nichols, Barrett Riggins, and Jennifer Smith. Directed and choreographed by Emmy nominated Al Blackstone and musical direction by Garrett Taylor, An American In Paris will be presented from August 3-13, 2022.

LOVE LETTERS Jack returns to The Actor’s Garage for the third time in a Zoom Webinar reading of A. R. Gurney’s 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama finalist play, Love Letters. Using the epistolary form, the play centers on two friends who, over nearly 50 years, discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats. Playing Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, a role played Off-Broadway and on Broadway by such notable actors as George Grizzard, Christopher Reeve, Christopher Walken, Jason Robards, Philip Bosco, and Richard Thomas. Jack is joined by dear friend Ellen Porto in the role of Melissa Gardner. Love Letters is directed by Lynne Colatrella and Frank Gaffney and presented on February 11, 2021 at 7PM.

THE BEST MAN Jack returns to The Actor’s Garage for a Zoom Webinar reading of Gore Vidal’s 1960 important and very timely play, The Best Man. Playing Presidential candidate William Russell, the role originally played by Melvyn Douglas on Broadway, Henry Fonda in the 1964 movie, and subsequently by Spaulding Gray, John Laroquette, and Martin Shaw in revivals, Jack is joined by Michael Limone, Cathy Cordero, Rick Massoti, Jessie Gilbert, Natasha Fenster and Tom Petrone. The Best Man is directed by Lynne Colatrella and presented on October 15, 2020 at 7PM.

THE NORMAL HEART Jack joins The Actor’s Garage for a Zoom Webinar reading of Larry Kramer’s important, emotional and very timely play. Playing Tommy Boatwright, Jack is joined by Michael Limone, Tom Petrone, Laura Silence, and Darren Carfano. The Normal Heart is directed by Lynne Colatrella and Frank Gaffney and presented on June 25, 2020 at 8PM.

THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE Jack appears for the eighth time with City Center Encores! in a completely reimagined interpretation of the Tony Award winning musical.With a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, music by Jeanine Tessori and lyrics by Dick Scanlan, creative consulting by Lauren Yee, the production will star Ashley Park as Millie Dumont. Produced by Artistic Director Jack Viertel, directed by Lear deBessonet, with musical direction by Rob Berman and choreography by Camille Brown, Thoroughly Modern Millie will be presented at the New York City Center from May 6 - 10, 2020. THE PASSING SHOW OF 2019 Jack appears for the third time with Unsung Musicals in a special benefit concert. Playing Jeopardy host Alex Trebeck in the new song What Is, with music and lyrics by Daniel Sefik and as an inveterate New Yorker in the sketch Are You Really A New Yorker?, Jack is joined by Nancy Anderson, Traci Blair, Tim Falter, Rebecca Faulkenberry, Alli Mauzi, James Patterson, Aaron Ramey, Jonathan Rayson, Matt Walton, Kristen Beth Williams, and Tom Wopat. Produced by Ben West, directed by Srda Vasiljevic, with musical direction by Evan Zavada and hosted by Michael John LaChiusa, The Passing Show Of 2019 will be presented at the Pershing Square Signature Center - Irene Diamond Stage on December 16, 2019 at 7pm.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC Jack plays Franz, the von Trapp butler who betrays them in service to the Nazi Party, in the 70th anniversary season of the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, NY. The Sound Of Music, with book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein and based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, also features Brandi Burkardt, Ryan K. Bailer, Tracy Bidleman, Tom Souhrada, Jenny Hill, Nick Zioboro, Erin Kelly, and Melody Wolford. With direction and choreography by Mitzi Hamilton, and musical direction by Hosun Moon, The Sound Of Music runs from July 31 through August 17, 2019.

A NIGHT OF BROADWAY STARS Jack will reunite with his Asolo Repertory Theatre Music Man quartet-mates - Mel Johnson, Jr, Joseph Torello, and Branch Woodman - for a gala benefiting the Covenant House. They will be joined by Laura Osnes for Lida Rose/Will I Ever Tell You? Hosted by 60 Minutes’ John Dickerson, with additional appearances by Audra McDonald, Darius de Haas, Caissie Levy, and Rachel Brosnahan, the evening will be directed by Jeff Calhoun. June 3, 2019 at 6pm at the Frederick P. Rose Hall in Lincoln Center.

THE MUSIC MAN Jack once again revisits the role of Ewart Dunlop in The Music Man, a role he has played on Broadway and many times since, at the historic Asolo theatre in Sarasota, FL. The Music Man, with book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson and based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey, stars Noah Racey as Professor Harold Hill. Also featured are Britney Coleman, Danny Gardner, Matthew McGee, and Lenny Wolpe. Under the direction of Jeff Calhoun, with choreography by Paul McGill and musical direction by Steve Orich, The Music Man runs from November 13 through December 29, 2018.

FRONT PAGE FLO Jack makes his debut at the Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls, NY as Brett Buckles, the owner of the New York News in the world premiere of Front Page Flo, a Golden-Era style tap musical. Front Page Flo, with book by George Pinney, Larry Kass, and Sara Kass and music and lyrics by Larry Kass, also features Natalie Storrs, Josh Israel, Christianne Tisdale, Lana Gordon, Caleb Novell, and Janie Johnson. The production is directed and choreographed by George Pinney with musical direction by Terry L. LaBolt. Front Page Flo runs from August 3 through August 9, 2018 at the Charles R. Woods Theatre.

RAGTIME Jack revisits the role of Henry Ford in Ragtime at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival in Center Valley, PA on the campus of DeSalles University. Ragtime, with book by Terrance McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens is based on the 1975 best-selling novel by E.L. Doctorow, and also features Nkrumah Gatling, Destinee Rea, Brandi Burkhardt, Samuel Druhora, Bryant Martin, Richard White, Carly Amburn, Freddie Kimmel, Rod Singleton and Michele Ragusa. Under the direction of Dennis Razze, with choreography by Steven Casey and musical direction by J. Bennett Durham, Ragtime will be conducted by Nathan Diehl and runs from June 13 through July 1, 2018.

The Tony Award Predictions

With a few exceptions, most everything in Meredith Wilson’s variegated score is sung by the stars, the quartet or the chorus (on the CD). The quartet is a major presence, and they do a wonderful job. They seem to be a touch more human than the Buffalo Bills, who originated the roles. Rather than using a professional barbershop quartet, this production assembled their own – “The Hawkeye Four” – using actors with a sense of humor.
